Spectacular Haleakala Sunrise Tour FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How cold is it at Haleakala before sunrise?

Temperatures near the Visitor Center at 9,740 feet can range from approximately 20 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Wear warm layers, long pants and closed-toed shoes, even when the weather at your hotel is warm.

What happens if clouds block the sunrise?

Mountain weather can change quickly, and a clear sunrise cannot be guaranteed. The tour still includes the guided summit visit, Haleakala National Park scenery and breakfast, but refunds are not provided when clouds or other weather conditions limit the sunrise view.

Why should scuba divers wait before taking this tour?

The tour rises rapidly from sea level to nearly 10,000 feet, creating a major change in altitude. Guests who have been scuba diving must wait at least 72 hours before joining the tour to reduce the risk associated with ascending to high elevation too soon after a dive.
